World Education Summit
Over several years I contributed four sessions to the World Education Summit, exploring practical approaches I had used and developed in specialist education. These conversations span music and vibration, virtual reality, learning through play, and an interview with inspirational educationalist Maxine Pittaway MBE. The sessions are now preserved as part of WES Legacy.
Music in the Special Classroom — WES 2022
In this session I explore how music, sound and vibration can support children and young people with learning differences. I discuss the use of music to support cognition, physical and emotional wellbeing and transitions, alongside approaches including music and movement, hydrotherapy and vibrational therapy. WES includes the session within its Living Books collection

Virtual Reality for Students with Learning Differences — WES 2022
Drawing on our experiences of using virtual reality in specialist education, I explore how VR can support teaching, behaviour and anxiety reduction. This includes using virtual environments to allow anxious pupils to experience an unfamiliar setting — such as their future secondary school — repeatedly and safely before encountering it in the real world.

Learning through Play — WES 2023
In this session I explore why some children need alternative routes into learning and how play can provide them. I discuss play schemas, schematic play and play-based curricula, together with approaches such as DIR/Floortime and the importance of adapting teaching to the interests and needs of the individual child

In this conversation I interview recently retired headteacher Maxine Pittaway MBE about creating meaningful opportunities for young people with additional needs beyond the classroom. We discuss Young Enterprise, work experience, developing opportunities within school and providing accreditation and qualifications across different ability levels.
